For the Many Homes Are Not Hotels campaign meeting in Poughkeepsie

July Newsletter

Over the past few weeks we’ve been celebrating Sarahana’s primary victory, gearing up to launch a new housing justice campaign, and renewing our calls for the legislature to pass Good Cause Eviction statewide after a municipal Good Cause law was overturned by a state court.

We’re still celebrating Sarahana’s victory in the Democratic primary for Assembly District 103! We made 76,262 voter contacts by knocking doors, making phonecalls, and sending texts; sent nearly 80,000 mailers; and ran digital ads with over 445,000 impressions. When Sarahana wins in November, she’ll be the first democratic socialist from upstate New York in the state legislature.

Sarahana’s win against a 23-year incumbent proved that we have the power to win major victories that disrupt that status quo.

Now we’re getting ready to launch new campaigns in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Kingston to take on vacation rentals like Airbnbs that are replacing our permanent housing stock and displacing our neighbors. We’re fighting to pass laws that will make it illegal for absentee investors to profit off vacation rentals AND ensure that those laws are enforced – making more housing available for long-term renters and homebuyers.
