Student Organizing Internship
Background
- Students are an incredibly important base for social movements!
- At For the Many, thousands of students have taken action to knock doors, make calls, organize their peers, and raise money to win a Hudson Valley that works for all of us!
- Student organizing interns will work to engage and expand our student base by planning events and protests, expanding our election efforts, and fighting to pass legislation at the state level.
- This fall, Bard, Marist, SUNY New Paltz, and Vassar students will play a crucial role in helping to organize around cost of education, immigrant rights, housing, and climate campaigns throughout the Hudson Valley!
Shifts/time:
- 4 hours minimum, mix of meetings, and independent work
Location:
- Bard College Campus OR Marist College Campus OR SUNY New Paltz Campus OR Vassar College Campus
Key tasks/skills developed:
- Canvassing/Tabling, talking to students on campus about our campaigns and voting, recruiting potential volunteers
- Phonebanking, calling community members to talk to them about voting, our campaigns, and recruiting potential volunteers and members
- Familiarity with digital organizing tools, including EveryAction, scaletowin, and Airtable
- Volunteer Engagement, having 1-1 conversations with volunteers to develop their relationship with the organization
- Relational Organizing, organizing your own networks to take action for progressive issue and electoral campaigns in NY
- Event Planning, writing agendas, creating sign up sheets, using mobilize, facilitating meetings, participating in protests
- Potentially…
- Facilitation, facilitating class and organizational visits on campus to share our work and how folks can get involved
- Data Management, getting trained in and utilizing EveryAction (CRM) and Airtable to manage contact data
- Digital Canvassing, using social media to engage and canvass non-local contacts
