Organizing Academy
Background:
- For the Many is a building a grassroots movement of everyday people to transform New York so it works for all of us. We organize around issues like housing, worker rights, healthcare, immigration, utilities/climate change, and a just economy.
- This summer we are distilling 50 years worth of organizing lessons into a 9 week training series!
- We’re pulling together knowledge and experience from union, student, and community organizing and training Organizing Academy participants in the fundamentals of what it takes to build power for and with working people.
Shifts/time:
- 2 hours a week from June 1st to July 31st, 2026

Key tasks/skills developed:
Outreach skills, we’ll be covering how we conduct outreach to diverse audiences and have deep conversations with strangers
Planning, developing an understanding of how organizers determine and implement strategies and tactics to win real change
Political Education, learn from political experts about New York State and Hudson Valley politics and movement history from organizers
Leadership and Management, develop an understanding of how to manage and coach volunteers and then develop them into leaders
Messaging, hear from organizing communications leaders and how we message to appeal to as many people as possible
