KINGSTON, N.Y. – As local Good Cause Eviction laws continue to be blocked by judges, a progressive cause group has ramped up its call for the state legislature to pass one.

The group, For the Many, issued a statement on Wednesday calling on the lawmakers to enact a Good Cause Eviction law to protect tenants against wrongful evictions

“These (local) laws were passed for a good reason—the Hudson Valley is in a housing crisis,” For The Many said. “Rents are skyrocketing and the threat of eviction looms over more and more tenants. Now, only Kingston and Beacon’s Good Cause laws remain, and tenants are now at risk of losing their homes. Cities have done their part, but now it is state legislators’ turn.”
