TELL NEW YORK LEGISLATORS: FREEZE RENT UPSTATE

New York is facing an unprecedented housing crisis that’s forcing families from their homes and tearing apart communities. While greedy corporate landlords rake in record profits, renters across the state are facing predatory rent hikes and constant threats of displacement. Rent stabilization could help solve the problem, but deep-pocketed landlords are using legal loopholes to stop towns and cities from adopting it—keeping rents high and tenants at risk.

New York can stop this cycle and protect up to 10 million tenants by passing the Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants (REST) Act—but we need to get it done before the end of this year’s legislative session. The REST Act would empower local governments to protect tenants by finally putting an end to landlord lawsuits and making it easier for upstate communities to opt into rent stabilization.

We need all hands on deck if we’re going to get REST to the finish line this year. Email our lawmakers today to demand they pass the REST Act before the end of session. Please take a moment to personalize the email and subject line below to make sure your lawmaker sees it. Our elected officials need to know that their constituents are paying attention!
