Kingston Approves 15% Rent Reduction

We won a 15% rent reduction for rent-stabilized buildings in Kingston! The Kingston Rent Guidelines Board made history by becoming the first municipality in New York to REDUCE rents for rent-stabilized units.

We won this victory because of organizing, plain and simple. When Kingston opted into ETPA this summer, we started knocking doors and met hundreds of tenants who were dealing with unjust eviction threats, exorbitant rent increases, and hazardous maintenance issues. We helped mobilize over 100 tenants to the public hearings so that they could share their stories with the Board and call for a rent reduction.
