MIDDLETOWN FORUM SHINES LIGHT ON DRIVER’S LICENSES FOR UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

Minga shared his story at a forum at the Michael G. Perkins Community Center in an effort to highlight how current laws barring undocumented immigrants in New York from obtaining driver’s licenses impact a family.

The forum was organized by the local, grassroots immigration advocacy group Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson and supporters of the Green Light NY campaign. People from Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Warwick, Goshen, Pine Island, Middletown and Newburgh attended the event.

Minga said his uncle often calls to let them know he’s doing well, but Minga’s family is still worried because they don’t know when he will get out of jail.”
