Kingston to Start Issuing Municipal ID Cards on Sunday
The Kingston Common Council voted unanimously for the municipal ID card program in early December 2018, and Noble signed the legislation two weeks later.
Municipal ID cards are intended to serve as identification for people who have difficulty obtaining traditional forms of identification, including undocumented immigrants. The immigrants rights group Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson has spearheaded the effort to have area cities enact ID card programs.
So far, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Beacon and Middletown have done so.
