Hudson Common Council calls on state to pass REST act and expand rent stabilization
HUDSON – The Hudson Common Council has passed a memorializing resolution in support of the Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants Act (REST) that calls on the state to pass the bill in an effort to address the statewide housing crisis.
The council on Tuesday night also passed a resolution calling on the state to pass the NY for All Act to protect New York’s immigrant communities from the Trump Administration’s “attacks,” according to the grassroots group For the Many.
Hudson is the fifth city to pass a memorializing resolution calling on the state to pass the REST Act, following the cities of Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Albany.
“Hudson tenants are facing impossible choices as rents skyrocket and wages remain the same, which is to say, unlivable,” said Brahvan Ranga, political director of For the Many.
He said the REST Act would cap rent increases at a reasonable amount, “giving tenants the stability they need to stay in their homes and their communities.”
