Democratic candidates for Ulster County executive weigh in on non-owner-occupied short-term rentals

Two Democratic candidates for Ulster County executive say outright bans on non-owner-occupied short-term rentals may not be the right thing to do for particular communities.

That decision, though, should be left to localities to decide, according to the candidates, Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher and former state Sen. Jen Metzger.

Their comments come on the heels of a campaign launched by For the Many, a group supporting progressive causes and political candidates, aimed at banning non-owner-occupied short-term rentals.

Gallagher and Metzger say they will run for Ulster County Executive if Pat Ryan wins the 19th Congressional District seat in the House of Representatives. They are both scheduled speakers during a press conference Thursday in Newburgh sponsored by For the Many on the topic of banning non-owner-occupied short-term rentals.
