Bard Student Organizing Intern

Background

  • For the Many has a new club at Bard College! Bard students have played a very active role in For the Many’s recent campaigns – knocking thousands of doors and making thousands of calls to win a Hudson Valley that works for all of us
  • This fall, Bard students will play a crucial role in helping build our fundraising drive and organize around local housing campaigns throughout the Hudson Valley!
  • Student organizing interns will help grow the club by participating in one of two committees
    • Grassroots Fundraising Committee – participate in political education sessions, learn why grassroots fundraising is so important to our movement, build our winter fundraising drive by recruiting other students to volunteer, and learn how to manage volunteers
    • Base-building Committee – plan the programming for the club, recruit other students to club events, put on events / run political education sessions

 

Shifts/time: 

  • 2-3 hrs of meetings per week, 1+ hrs of independent work

Key tasks/skills developed:

 

(1) Fundraising Committee

  • Political Education, participating in multiple political education sessions to learn about movement building, the role of For the Many, the importance of grassroots fundraising
  • Relational Organizing, organizing your own networks to take action for progressive issue and electoral campaigns in NY
  • Volunteer Engagement, having 1-1 conversations with volunteers to develop their relationship with the organization and get them to take action
  • Volunteer Management, learning how to manage volunteers through 1-1 check ins and providing support and accountability to help them complete their work

 

(2) Basebuilding Committee

  • Canvassing/Tabling, talking to students on campus about our campaigns, recruiting potential volunteers and members
  • Phonebanking, calling students to talk to them about our campaigns, recruiting potential volunteers and members
  • Familiarity with digital organizing tools, including EveryAction, scaletowin, Mailmerge, Airtable
  • Volunteer Engagement, having 1-1 conversations with volunteers to develop their relationship with the organization
  • Relational Organizing, organizing your own networks to take action for progressive issue and electoral campaigns in NY
  • Event Planning, writing agendas, creating sign up sheets, using mobilize, facilitating meetings
  • Facilitation, facilitating class and organizational visits on campus to share our work and how folks can get involved
