Councilman Anthony Grice speaks in to a microphone at a press conference. Behind him, people stand holding signs calling for short-term rental regulation.

Activist group For the Many to hold parties in Kingston, New Paltz, Mid-Hudson in push to curb short-term rentals

“This campaign is taking on one of the major factors in the Hudson Valley housing crisis: vacation rentals (like Airbnbs) owned by absentee investors who live off-site,” a press release said. “These outside investors are buying up huge amounts of houses and apartments and turning them into unregulated hotels for tourists instead of renting or selling them to long-term Hudson Valley residents.”

For the Many said that fewer housing options means that rents, property taxes, and home prices are going up for Kingston residents while outside investors make a profit from renting to tourists.
