KINGSTON PLANS RENTAL PROTECTION LAW

KINGSTON, N.Y. — Mayor Steven Noble introduced a law proposal on Wednesday that would give tenants the right to a lease renewal and would protect against predatory rent increases and unfair evictions.

The Good Cause Eviction law proposal will be presented to the Laws & Rules Committee scheduled for Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Noble was joined at a press conference by four members of the Common Council and representatives of Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson, the Real Kingston Tenants Union/Ulster County Coalition for Housing Justice and Citizen Action.

Brahvan Ranga of Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson said many residents live in fear “of housing insecurity: skyrocketing rental prices, predatory landlords, and the threat of evictions looming large.”
