Pat Ryan pledges to reject ICE contractor funds, pledges donations to local immigrant groups

Amid increased outcry over federal immigration enforcement, U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan announced he will reject contributions from executives at companies that work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and will donate any prior donations to Hudson Valley nonprofits serving immigrants.

For the Many took to social media on Jan. 30 to call Ryan out for taking money from Palantir, which it called “ICE’s top corporate enabler.” Bix said the group learned of the contributions via Purge Palantir, a national campaign affiliated with the progressive communications group MediaJustice.

For the Many said Ryan took $134,000, a figure from Purge Palantir’s payroll tracker, which analyzes Federal Election Commission filings to identify politicians who have received Palantir-linked donations.

For the Many celebrated Ryan’s decision on social media and said it had “successfully pressured” the congressman. Bix said he hopes Ryan joins the group in calling to abolish ICE. While calls to “abolish ICE” have grown nationwide, Ryan said he favors a total reform of the agency, which was created as part of the Homeland Security Act in 2002.
