Kingston lawmaker seeks changes to Stony Run workforce housing plan

KINGSTON, N.Y.— Alderwoman Michele Hirsch said she will seek to amend a resolution at Wednesday night’s special Common Council meeting to turn the Stony Run apartment complex into workforce housing.

Hirsch, D-Ward 9, is set to introduce five amendments that were written by The Stony Run Tenants Union and For The Many in response to what the group said was a rushed vote.

In a joint statement, the Tenants Union and For The Many said that, “We maintain that this vote is premature; it was scheduled before our March 27th meeting with the mayor, and the resolution does not include any input or feedback from tenants.”

The groups added, “Therefore, we have submitted five proposed amendments to the mayor, Common Council, and corporation counsel. These amendments would substantially improve the resolution by addressing tenants’ concerns. They would, among other things, deepen long-term affordability, ensure future tenants benefit from ETPA protections, and guarantee tenant representation on any Housing Development Fund Company (HDFC) created to serve Stony Run.
