Our State Senate races aren’t over
There’s no way around it, a lot is hanging in the balance at this moment.
But we also know that – no matter who is our president or our State Senator – we will need to fight. Our opponents will continue to blame new immigrants, Black people, and people struggling to make ends meet for hard times. People are dying from lack of healthcare, from police violence, from the denial of their rights based on where they were born. And the greedy few have rigged the rules to silence our voices and hold onto power.
We still don’t know who won our State Senate races, and we won’t know until every single vote is counted. While our opponents are leading our State Senate races now, there are tens-of-thousands of absentee ballots that will be counted over the next few weeks. Those ballots will be heavily weighted towards our candidates and will decide the results of each race.
We knew these races would be extremely close. We knew that it would come down to each and every vote — and our opponents knew that too. That’s why the GOP started fighting to challenge absentee ballots before election day even happened.
Our opponents are nervous. And they should be.
There has never been a bottom-up, left-wing electoral movement in the Hudson Valley like this before. Since the summer, over 600 people have signed up to take action with us. Together, we made 309,367 calls and sent 1,251,884 texts to build the power needed to transform New York.
We are coming out of this election with hundreds more volunteers, new skills, and the ability to reach hundreds-of-thousands of everyday people about the problems we experience each day. We are coming out of this election more ready and more powerful than ever for our fights for healthcare, housing, immigration, and climate justice.
By joining together – Black, brown, and white – we can transform our society to one that works for all of us, not just the greedy few. No matter the results of the elections, we are growing this movement, and we are changing what people believe is possible.
