Defeated Danskammer Fracked Gas Plant

We defeated Danskammer’s proposal to expand their fracked gas power plant in Newburgh! Working closely with the Stop Danskammer Coalition, we turned people out to public hearings and protests to make our voices heard and protect clean air and water for our communities.

The rejected proposal would have brought over 25 times more health-damaging particulate matter and volatile organic compounds (VOC) to the region, worsening air quality and exacerbating public health concerns like asthma in environmental justice communities in and around Newburgh.

This precedent-setting decision heeds the call of activists and community members to reject new fracked gas infrastructure and commit to clean, renewable energy.
