August 2022 Newsletter
It’s Ash with For the Many, reaching out with some summer updates. Our Homes Are Not Hotels campaign is in full swing, and there’s lots of ways you can get involved and support the campaign (and some of them involve free food!) But before we get to our updates, we have an urgent request for support for the family of our community organizer Vanessa. Vanessa’s mom, Cid, was seriously injured by a dog while organizing for housing justice. Now their family is facing huge medical costs and loss of income while Cid takes time off work to recover.
It’s times like these that remind us why we’re fighting like hell to build a future where housing and healthcare are human rights. And we’re also reminded of how grateful we are to be in the movement with all of you – everyday people, coming together to create lasting change.
We kicked off our Homes Are Not Hotels campaign in-person with a press conference in our Newburgh office. Now we’re taking it to the next level and hosting BLOCK PARTIES across the region to bring folks into the campaign.
JOIN US: We’ll have free food, games, and music, + exclusive swag!
We’re looking for volunteers to support specific aspects of our work. You can also always sign up for our general volunteer interest form here.
Block Party volunteers: We need volunteers to help run tables at our Block Parties in Poughkeepsie, Middletown, Newburgh, and Kingston. Dates are Saturday 8/13 (Middletown + Poughkeespie), Saturday 8/20 (Newburgh) and Saturday 9/17 (Kingston). Volunteers will receive a FREE Homes Are Not Hotels t-shirt!
Photography/Videography volunteers: We’re looking for folks with photography/videography experience to help us capture our events throughout the year. We have camera equipment, or you can supply your own! Volunteers will get a FREE For the Many t-shirt.
That’s all for now – thanks for sticking with us. You’ll hear more from us soon!
In solidarity,
For the Many team
